The comparison of adjectives:

The comparative form:

 to compare two people or things, use the comparative form of adjectives. The comparative form is usually made by adding ER to the adjectives.


Adjectives:  comparative:

Dark              Darker

Light               Lighter

Notes: The word than is often used to compare two things or people. 

For example: 

1-Mr. Eve is taller than Mariana.


The superlative form:

When you compare three or more people or things, use the superlative form of an adjective. The superlative form is usually made by adding EST to the adjectives:

Notes: The word the is often used before the superlative form.

 For example: 

A bug is a small insect. A ladybird is smaller, but an ant is the smallest insect.


If the adjectives end in e, add R to form the comparative and ST to form the superlative:

If the adjective is a short word that ends in a consonant and has a single vowel in the middle. Just double the consonant and add ER to make the comparative form and EST to make the superlative form.

Thin             Thinner 

Big                Bigger 


Superlative:

Saddest

If the adjective has two syllables and ends in Y. Just change the Y to I and add ER to make the comparative form and add EST to make the superlative:

Use more and most to compare two syllables adjectives. You will also use more and most with all adjectives that have more than two syllables:

Irregular comparative and superlative: The comparative and superlative form of these adjectives are different words called irregular form:

Superlative:

Best

Worst

Farthest/ Furthest 


For example:

1- My painting is good, Annie painting is better, but Andrea’s painting is the best. 馃帹

2- Andy is close to your sister

3- The street is larger than the river

4- I am taller than Sonia 

5- You are the best student in class 

6-you are better than me in French 

7- You are more beautiful than your Mother.

  Interrogatives Pronouns: Are words used to ask questions. The words: Who Whose What Which Whom Are interrogative pronouns. Indefinite pronouns.

  INDEFINITE PRONOUNS: *An indefinite pronoun does not refer directly to any other words. Most indefinite pronouns express the idea of quantity. For example: 1- everybody is welcome at the meeting. 2- Many prefer their coffee with sugar. 3- Does anybody care for a cheese sandwich ? 4-Few choose to live in the arid desert.   The verb to be: The verb  to be is one of the most common verbs in the english language. *The form of the verb to be: *When? Who? Form: *Base form: the base form of the verb be can be simple. *Simple present: First person singular:       I am. Second person singular:  You are. Third person singular:  He/She/It is. First person plural:  We are. Second person Plural: You are. Third person plural: They are.
