Indirect questions:

To report a question, put the subject before the verb or helping verb. Remember that the subject comes after the helping verb when you ask a question.

Here are some examples:

Asking a question.                Reporting a question

1- where are they going?        I asked where are they

                                                         going.

2- Can jack ride his bike?         I asked if jack could

                                                    ride his bike.

3- Did Miss Carter sing a song?   I asked whether

                                                Miss Carter sang a song.

Indirect questions are a way of being polite. They are very, very common in english, and we use them when  they are stranger people.

Examples:

1- Can you tell me if he is Spanish?

2- Can you tell me if you were watching TV at 8 pm?
