When you are reading a play script, notice the colon between the name of a character and the words that they speak.
Examples:
1-Jack : What have you got in the bag?
2- Maggie: My swimming suit.
3- Jack: When are you going swimming?
4- Maggie: This afternoon. Would you like to come?
Here in this dialogue we can see the correct use of the colon, we can use it to give emphasis and clarify things:
Examples:
1- We have two choices: Talk or ask.
2- We wanted to see four cities in USA: N.Y, L.A, Chicago and Washington.
3- we can pick one: Red or Blue.
