- *plan to do*

- *promise to do*


- *refuse to do*


- *seem to do*


- *tend to do*


- *threaten to do*

focus on mastering common structures like Verb + to-infinitive, Verb + -ing (gerund), Verb + Object + to-infinitive, and Verb + Object + bare infinitive, often distinguishing between verbs that take only one form (e.g., enjoy playing) and those that take both with meaning changes (e.g., stop doing vs. stop to do), along with reporting verbs and causative verbs. 


Key B2 Verb Patterns:


1. Verb + to-infinitive: (e.g., decide, hope, want)

    * She decided to leave early.

    * I hope to see you soon.


2. Verb + -ing (gerund): (e.g., enjoy, finish, suggest)

    * He enjoys playing guitar.

    * She suggested going to the museum.


3. Verbs with Different Meanings (Gerund vs. Infinitive):

    * Stop: Stop + -ing (quit) vs. Stop + to-infinitive (pause to do something).

        * He stopped smoking. (Quit).

        * He stopped to smoke. (Paused to light a cigarette).

    * Try: Try + -ing (experiment) vs. Try + to-infinitive (make an effort).

        * I tried calling him. (Experimented with calling).

        * I tried to call him. (Made an effort to call).


4. Verb + Object + to-infinitive: (e.g., advise, ask, expect, tell)

    * We want you to play.

    * She expected him to arrive.


5. Causative Verbs (make, let, have, get):

    * Make + obj + bare infinitive: She made me study (forced).

    * Let + obj + bare infinitive: He let us leave (allowed).

    * Have + obj + bare infinitive: I had the technician fix it (arranged).

    * Get + obj + to-infinitive: I got him to fix it (persuaded/arranged).


6. Reporting Verbs with Different Patterns: (e.g., advise, agree, claim, refuse)

    * Some followed by to-infinitive (e.g., agree to help).

    * Some followed by that-clause (e.g., claim that he was right).


7. Verbs + Wh- Clauses: (e.g., wonder, know, ask)

  The verb to be: The verb  to be is one of the most common verbs in the english language. *The form of the verb to be: *When? Who? Form: *Base form: the base form of the verb be can be simple. *Simple present: First person singular:       I am. Second person singular:  You are. Third person singular:  He/She/It is. First person plural:  We are. Second person Plural: You are. Third person plural: They are.
