Past progressive tense: B1- intermediate:


 Use the past progressive tense to talk about things that were happening and had not stopped happening. They were continuing.


*To make the past progressive tense use Was/Were and a verb that ends in ing.

Examples:

1- I was watching Tv.

2- Ben was finishing his homework 馃摎 

3- she was putting her books on the table.

4-Jenny and I were tidying the classroom.

5-We were all dancing at the party.

6- You weren’t listening to the teacher 馃懇‍馃彨 

7- Some boys were looking out of the window 

* Notes:

The ING form of a verb is called the present participle.

You use the present participle with was/ were to make the past progressive tense 馃摎

Examples:

Was cleaning 
Were listening 
Were dancing 

2- You can also use the past progressive tense to say what was happening when something else happened:

Examples:

1- Sam was doing her homework when the phone rang.

2- Dad was cooking our dinner when i got home. 

3- When I saw joe, he was looking for his dog

4- We were all enjoying the movie when the power went out 

5- What were they doing when the bell rang?
